Faith Q&A › Catechism › 4. The Devil Has No Authority Over Us

Is the world filled with angels and demons?

The answer

The enemy of goodness, the devil — wanting to take control of all humanity and become the ruler of this world — does not cease from roaming the earth together with his angels, casting their nets and traps for humans, exposing their sins to God and accusing them. This is what we learn from the Book of Job. St. John Chrysostom says, “’And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So, Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth and from walking back and forth on it.”’ (Job 1:7). What do we understand from that? The earth is full of devils and angels … This means that Satan is with the angels in the world. For just as deceitful people are mingled with the righteous, so are angels and devils also.”705
