According to the Synaxarium, St. Matthias preached in a city of cannibals who plucked his eyes and jailed him before they would eat him. Did St. Matthias get his sight back after that?
The answer
Matthias preached the Gospel to barbarians and cannibals in the interior of Ethiopia, at the harbor of the sea of Hyssus. Most probably he did not gain his sight back; for like many of the apostles he was tortured before his death.
