Temptation

Faith Q&A › Metropolitan Youssef › Spiritual Life › Temptation

The question

Given that we live in a world where evil is everywhere, wouldn't it be beneficial to our spiritual lives if we all lived in the desert or somewhere where the worldly evils could be avoided?

The answer

I highly recommend that you read about the monks of the desert. You will be surprised to read how much they suffer from temptation and how the devil would sometimes personify himself as a woman to tempt a monk. Do not think that the life of solitude in the desert is without temptation. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself was tempted in the wilderness.
