Contraception/Contraceptives

Faith Q&A › Metropolitan Youssef › Marriage and Family › Contraception/Contraceptives

The question

What is the Church's view on Contraception? Would it be going against God's Will to control birth for one reason or the other?

The answer

The church encourages family planning and responsibility. The use of contraceptives involves medical, practical, and economic concerns. Therefore, the church approves their use. There are many factors the couple ought to discuss with each other as well as their spiritual father to determine if they are indeed proceeding by God's will, and not for selfish reasons.
