The answer
A child's gender is chosen by God alone and for his will and purpose. The Holy Gospel, according to St. Luke, records that when the angel Gabriel announced the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ to the Blessed Virgin, he proclaimed to her that she would have a Son. Again the same angel deliberately revealed to Zachariah, the priest, the birth of St. John the Baptist. Isaac, the son of promise, was declared to Abraham in Genesis 18:10.
