The question

After a Coptic couple is married and the Holy Spirit unites them into one, what happens spiritually if adultery is committed? Is this bond broken instantly or only after divorce?

The answer

The Matrimonial Mystery is wounded and fractured when infidelity occurs, but the unity of the husband and wife is still in tact by the Holy Spirit.

After the clergical review is conducted and a decision to divorce is made, then the divorce is spiritually conclusive that these two individuals are no longer one.
