St. Philopateer Mercurius

Faith Q&A › Metropolitan Youssef › St. Mary and the Saints › St. Philopateer Mercurius

The question

Where are the two swords of St. Philopateer, Abu Seifeen, kept? Where is his armor?

The answer

The church does not possess St. Philopateer's armor or swords. Most likely, at the time of martyrdom—especially for royals, dignitaries, and military ranks, they were probably stripped of prominent elements associated with their former status for further insult. The people who cared for the martyrs' burials probably tried to preserve what they could if anything associated with them still remained.
