Faith Q&A › Metropolitan Youssef › Prayer, Fasting and Worship › Fasting

The question

Why is fasting with strict abstinence not allowed on Saturdays and Sundays?

The answer

The strict abstinence is not allowed on Saturday because this is the original Sabbath of the Lord, the day of rest. As for Sunday it is the day of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, a day of rejoicing.
