The question

Often, when I speak to people outside of the Orthodox faith, they tell me they do not need the sacraments or the church to get closer to Christ, and say the only important thing is to develop a close relationship with Christ. How can I combat these arguments? Also, is there a resource I can read to learn more on the subject?
