Faith Q&A › Metropolitan Youssef › Holy Scripture › King Solomon

The question

Is Solomon considered a saint in our Church?

The answer

The term 'saint' originated in the Book of Acts in reference to the believers. If your question is in reference to if King Solomon is considered righteous, his reign was a time of peace and prosperity, he was the wisest man of earth, and he built the temple of God. However, he had some flaws and faults—marrying woman of various foreign religions and raised incense to their gods. It is believed that Solomon repented at the end of his life, concluding that all is vanity. Repentance is the most important criteria differentiating saints from sinners.
