This is definitely a problem with modern translations. I don't want to add to your confusion but according to the New King James Version and the New Revised Standard Standard Version, this gift was a nose ring. The Revised Standard Version, the American Standard Version, and New Living Translation all say it was a gold ring. However, the King James Version is in agreement with the Septuagint Version of the Holy Bible which is the one used by the early Church fathers as both say the gift was earrings.
