Creation

Faith Q&A › Metropolitan Youssef › Our Lord and the Faith › Creation

The question

How can an Orthodox Christian read Genesis and the account of creation? Should it be read as literal truth or as an allegorical manner? Did the Church Fathers take it as literal? Is it Dogma to take the creation account as literal?

The answer

The Holy Bible is first recognized literally. Some passages are figurative and some are prophetic. The early Church Fathers considered creation according to the Holy Scripture to be literal truth, confirmed in Orthodox dogma, and not an allegorical narrative.
