Reformers

Faith Q&A › Metropolitan Youssef › The Church › Reformers

The question

Do you think the protestant reformers could have fit into the old wine skins of the Orthodox Church when they were new wine? Orthodoxy would burst.

The answer

The Orthodox Church has been alive and well way before Martin Luther and Calvin. The wine of the Orthodox Church is renewed all the time with the Holy Spirit, so I disagree with you when you say the old wine skin of the Orthodox Church. Anyone who reads about the church of the apostles and the early fathers will find himself learning about the Church of Alexandria and her role in keeping the faith and defending it against the heretics.
