What are the differences between the Orthodox and Catholic churches?

The answer

There are 7 main areas in which the Orthodox Church disagrees with the catholic Church:

  • The concept of purgatory.
  • The belief that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and Son, * the primacy of St Peter.
  • The infallibility of the Pope of Rome.
  • The immaculate conception of St Mary.
  • That sins can be forgiven through indulgences (selling the forgiveness of sins).
  • The acceptance of non Christians in marriage.
